Atari Mutineer is a modular Atari 8-bit BBS for sysops who want the feel of a real dial-up board with modern ATR convenience.
What it is
Most old BBS programs were built as one enormous BASIC listing. Mutineer is different. Its online functions are divided into independent Atari BASIC applications, coordinated by the resident Mutiny Modem System.
The board can leave the wait-for-call screen, load the main menu, enter a message base, launch a file area, start a door game, and return again without dropping the caller.
One caller. Many programs. One continuous session.
The Mutiny Modem System is Mutineer's resident communications and session layer. It loads before the BBS and remains available while Atari BASIC programs are replaced in memory.

Yes. Mount the Mutineer ATR as D1: in Altirra, configure the 850-compatible modem listener, and boot the Atari.
Yes. Use RespeQt, AspeQt, SIO2PC, SIO2USB, another Atari-compatible storage solution, or suitable physical or solid-state Atari storage.
No. Altirra may provide the network connection, but login, users, messages, files, doors, menus, access control, and session handling run on the Atari.
Because an Atari can still run the whole board: Atari BASIC, Atari CIO, Atari disk images, Atari text modes, and an Atari-resident communications layer.
Each major function has a job. Each application can be developed, tested, repaired, or replaced without turning the whole BBS into one giant listing.
The old machines deserve new software that respects Atari systems while adding structure, documentation, testing, and maintainability.
